Want to include special and little-known places in your route? You will love the Dutch Settlements in the Campos Gerais, a beautiful region of Paraná just two hours from Curitiba. The Dutch presence is very important here.
Tour available from Friday to Sunday.
Notice how the landscapes change as you move away from Curitiba. The Campos Gerais are famous for agriculture and dairy production. It is a wealthy region and with beautiful sceneries.
The first stop will be theCarambeí Historical Park, the largest open-air museum in the country. There you will see the beginning of the Carambeí colony from 1912, when the Dutch pioneers arrived in the region. The park is fascinating, with replicas of the first buildings. A beautiful place for photos!
At Koffiehuis, the park’s café, you can sample Dutch and Indonesian specialties (Indonesia used to be a Dutch colony). We recommend the Bitterballen ‒ Dutch Beef Dumplings. Lunch is not included in the tour. If you prefer, we can stop somewhere else for lunch.
The next stop is theCastrolanda Immigration Memorial. Castrolanda is considered the “milk capital” of Brazil and the Dutch who arrived here from 1951 contributed to this fame.
The Memorial Mill is the largest windmill outside the Netherlandsand is very impressive. You’ll also see an organ at the entrance and you can climb the entire mill to learn how it works (stairway access).
The last stop is the “sweetest” of the tour. TheFrederika’s cafehas delicious shepherd pies and fruit pies that you can taste and even buy to take away (not included). The place, besides being beautiful, attracts people from all over the region.
