WANT TO SEE A BRAVE AND BEAUTIFUL LITTLE TOWN? ADD LAPA TO YOUR ITINERARY.
Check out what a nice tour only 70 km away from Curitiba! Lapais the right choice if you like culture and history.
This small town, whose economic base is agriculture and livestock, has 45,000 inhabitants and is very proud of her past. The city center houses verywell preserved mansions and museumsthat tell the history of the city.
Founded by tropeiros (herdsmen), who played a key role in the development of Brazil, Lapa was the scene of a battle that lasted 26 days and held up the advance of maragato troops in 1894, enabling the Republican government to organize and later defeat the Southerners.
The city holds the memories of theSiege of Lapa in several museums, such as the Historical Museum, the Museum of Arms and the Pantheon of Heroes.
Casa Lacerda portrays the home of a wealthy family from the hinterlands in the 19th century. The furnishings are original and every detail has been carefully well-maintained.
At the Memorial Tropeiro, you will know a little more about these pioneers, who took their packs of mules laden with merchandise throughout Brazil.
TheIgreja Matriz de Santo Antoniowas built between 1769 and 1784 and is a genuine example of Portuguese colonial architecture.
The construction of the appealing Theatro São João started in 1873 and it was probably inaugurated in 1876. It is certain that Dom Pedro II, the Brazilian emperor, and his entourage were there in 1880. The space is interesting: there are 212 seats and the building is the definition of ‘eclectic’: the stage is in Italian style, the auditorium is in the Elizabethan style auditorium and the facade is neoclassical.
There is also the pleasant Casa da Memória or Casa dos Cavalinhos, which contains antique books and has a beautiful and curious history.
The Museu de Armas operates in the town’s former jailhouse and displays an extensive collection of arms from different epochs.
For lunch, we suggest you sample the flavors of the cozinha tropeira(herdsmen cuisine), with typical dishes such as the Virado de Feijão and Torresmo, Arroz Carreteiro, Quirera Lapeana and many others. Lunch is not included.
The Santuário de São Benedito (St. Benedict’s Sanctuary) is of is the largest in the world dedicated to this saint.
Lapa also offers the Parque Estadual do Monge, which has very interesting rock formations and a strong spiritual side, attracting many people and boasting a privileged view of the city.
If you want to taste another typical delicacy later, we recommend Coxinha de Farofa. At the Zeni Bakery you will also find pies and other treats.
A memorable trip to see a very beautiful place in Paraná!
As the buildings are historical and centenarian, they may undergo reforms and adjustments and the itinerary will be adapted in such cases.
