COMPLETE TRAIN RIDE FOR THOSE WHO LIKE A LATE START, WITH COMFORT AND EASE
‒ Be picked up at your hotel or central address (round trip). Pick up time starts at 8 AM and the tour ends about 7:30 PM.
‒ Go by van or micro-bus in the morning via Estrada da Graciosa or BR-277, depending on the weather conditions.
‒ Visit Antonina and Morretes, two charming little colonial towns with their houses, history and typical products (cachaça, banana candies, handmade products).
‒ Enjoy the typical lunch and discover the “barreado” ‒ a specialty of the Coast of Paraná. It is a very juicy beef stew that is served with rice, cassava flour and bananas. ‒ Experience one of the most famous train journeys in the world on board the tourist class – with Portuguese speaking guide! The tour includes the Morretes – Curitiba train ticket in the tourist class, the largest class on the train. Included are a guide on board (Portuguese only), a simple snack (crackers) and one water or soda. The windows can be opened and there is also a toilet. Important to know! The arrival time in Curitiba can change due to technical reasons as also the sunset time depends on the season. The tour is called “sunset”, but we can not promisse you one.
ABOUT THE TRAIN RIDE
It is considered as one of the most beautiful rail tours in the world by travel journalists and guides. It crosses 13 tunnels and bridges in the middle of the greatest area of Atlantic Rain Forest! You will be privileged to see all the green area: one of the richest biomas in the world. The railway between Curitba and Morretes is 68 km long (about 43 miles) and it lasts about 4 hours – the train goes slowly so that you can enjoy the landscapes.
The railway was built between 1880 and 1885 – so much history here! The guides on board (only in Portuguese) tell about the challenges of the construction – it is considered a master-piece of enginnering of the 19th century! The train tour is perfect to enjoy nature and to leave all-day routine behind.
ABOUT THE TOURIST CLASS OF THE TRAIN TOUR
– It is the most numerous class with more than 20 train cars. Most of them have 48 cushioned double seats with an aisle in the middle and the windowns can be opened both sides. For your comfort, a toilet is available in each car.
– The tour includes a tour guide on board (only in Portuguese) that tells the history and curiosities. For English speaking guides, see the options of Cabin / Imperial, Luxury and Barão do Serro Azul classes (all available in the website). The board service includes a simple snack and 1 water or soda per person. We suggest you pack something extra to eat and drink.
Fewtrain cars in this category have fixed seats, so that you might travel backwards regarding the landscapes.
From 8 AM – pick up time in centrally located addresses in Curitiba.
Transfer to Antonina by van or minibus with tour guide. The route is via Estrada da Graciosa or BR-277, depending on the size of the vehicle and weather conditions.
Visit to Antonina and Morretes, two charming little historic towns.
Typical lunch included (drinks and desserts will be charged according to consumption).
The reservation will be for the group, which means you will share the table with other travelers. An excellent opportunity to meet people and perhaps make new friends.
2:30 PM – be at the train station to board the tourist car in Morretes to return to Curitiba. The train leaves at 3 PM. The onboard guide speaks Portuguese, a simple snack is served, including one water or soda per person. Check the other categories for English speaking guide.
Estimated time of arrival in Curitiba: 7:15 PM. And then return to your hotel or central address.
How is a shared tour? The van or bus will pick up people in different places before the tour effectively starts. You will receive your train tickets at the rail station and will then know your seat number. In case you have chosen to go directly there you will get instructions one you arrive there. The guide will inform about times and schedule along the tour. The restaurant for lunch is previously booked by the tour organization and the menu is the typical one, so that the service can be fast. As the tour is for several people, it is not possible to change the tour schedule. You will have the chance to know people for different places and maybe even make new friends.
Special Paraná is transparent and ethical. So, it is good that you know that:
– The railroad also has cargo trains. The passenger train may stop in some moments and because of that, delays may happen. Do not make the tour if you have flight scheduled for the same day.
– We are not able to book a specific seat position. Tickets are issued sequentially and as the train changes sides, the seats that one day are on the left side, can be on the right side the other day.
– If you book ahead, the seats of the same reservation will be together. In case there are only isolated seats, we will let you know.
. Some coaches in the tourist category have fixed seats and on the way from Morretes to Curitiba you would have your back to the direction of the train. In case you have a medical condition that would make your trip unpleasant this way, please let us know.
– In case of dietary restrictions, please bring your own snack.
Student fare only applies for students with a specific student card issued by brazilian student organization (www.une.org.br) Student IDs will be checked by boarding. .

Regular departure time: vans pick clients up from 8:00 AM in centrally located addresses in Curitiba. Be ready by 8 AM, please. Van and guide are not authorized to wait for clients more than 3 minutes to avoid delays in the tour schedule.
End of the tour about 7:15 PM (estimated arrival time of the train) and return to the addresses.

This tour is operated by a partner of Special Paraná. Depending on the opening times and tour schedule, the guide might or not make a stop in a banana candy factory or at Graciosa Road. Talk to the guide on the tour begining and ask for details.
Required Documents: all must bring original documents or certified copies with photos. Children under 12 years of age can travel with an original birth certificate or a certified copy of this document. The current Brazilian legislation applies in case the child is traveling without the parents.
