The stretch of railroad that connects the capital of Paraná to the coast goes through the Serra do Mar. Its construction began in 1880 and was a great challenge for the engineers of the time. The train tour begins in Curitiba,934 m above sea leveland goes until Morretes. You will cross the largest continuous preservation area of Atlantic Rain Forest in Brazil.

This journey is frequently cited, by Brazilian and foreign experts, as one of the most beautiful railway rides in the world! It is a contemplative trip and the guide on board explains the whole history of the construction of the railway and curiosities.

The distance between Curitiba and Morretes is almost 70 km and the journey takes approximately 4 hours and 15 minutes. The route includes bridges, tunnels, rivers, waterfalls, canyons and is made on a train from the 1960s.

The train goes slowly and delays may occur due to the traffic of freight trains and technical railroad issues. Feel free to bring your additional snack or drinks (amount that fits in your backpack).

There are several classes of cars, with different levels of comfort and ambiance. For those who speak English, the recommendation is to reserve in the Staterooms, Imperial, Barão do Serro Azul or Luxury cabins. Ask for the extra fee for these categories.

‒ It is the largest class and currently has 22 wagons. Most cars seat 48 people, with cushioned seats and an aisle in the middle. All cars have a toilet.

‒ The trip includes the services of a guide that tells the whole history and curiosities of the railroad (in Portuguese / English). Also included are one bottle of water or soda per person and a simple snack.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to choose the seats, but they are numbered to facilitate boarding. Reservations are made in sequential order.

8:30 AM – approx. 12:45 PM – Train ride across the Serra do Mar up to Morretes in the tourist class (car with Portuguese speaking guide, snack and water or soda, one per person)

Lunch is not included. We suggest to try the typical menu of the region, with “barreado” ‒ beef stew that is served with rice, manioc flour and banana and usually has side dishes such as salad, fish and shrimp.
