NATURE AND CULTURE IN THE SAME TOUR: THE FABULOUS STONE FORMATIONS OF VILA VELHA AND ALL THE PROGRESS BROUGHT BY THE DUTCH TO PARANÁ!
This tour includes Vila Velha State Park and the affluent Dutch colonies of Carambeí and Castrolanda.
The landscape of the region is stunning, with rocky cliffs and fields, with dairy cattle and grains farms.
The park has three main attractions:
- Sandstones, which are rock formations presenting varied shapes, such as: cup, camel, ship, Indian, bottle, among others.
- Furnas, which are natural pits with lush vegetation and water inside (groundwater).
- Lagoa Dourada – ‘The Golden Lagoon’ derives its name because at sunset its waters become golden.
Stop for lunch where you prefer (not included).
Transfer to Castrolanda, a Dutch colonyfounded in 1951. The windmill is part of the Immigration Memorial, built in 2001 to celebrates the settlement´s 50th anniversary and can be visited from Friday to Sunday. During the closed times due to Covid-19, visit will be external.
Departure to the small town of Carambeí, the first Dutch colony in the region, founded in 1912. The first families settled on the then ‘Carambehy’ farm to supply milk and food o the workforces that labored on the construction of the railway. They founded the Batavo Cooperativeand today, with Castrolanda, make up the largest dairy pole in the country. Visit to the beautiful Carambeí Historical Park, which reproduces the buildings and portrays the way of life of the first Dutch who arrived in the region. At the entrance of the park, you will find the Kaffiehuis, a charming caféwhere you can taste delicious pies and other typical Dutch dishes.
ITINERARY FOR VILA VELHA AND DUTCH COLONIES TOUR
7:30 AM ‒ Departure from Curitiba to the Vila Velha State Park
9 – 12:30 PM ‒ Visit to the Vila Velha State Park (Sandstones, Furnas and Lagoa Dourada). ** In case of a strong thunderstorm, some parts of the Sandstone trail may be closed for safety reasons **
There are optional actitivies such as tree climbing and ziplining. You can add some action to your tour!
Girassol Restaurantopened a branch there with descomplicated service and tasty food: from snacks to burguers and local specialties such as grilled polenta. It is worth to have lunch there. You will also find local craft beer and artisan products, such as teas and cookies. Lunch is not include in the tour.
After lunch, transfer to Castrolanda – immigration memorial, where the famous windmill is located.
In the afternoon, transfer to Carambeí and visit the beautiful Carambeí Historical Park. At the entrance of the park, you will find the “Koffiehuis” confectionery, with delicious pies and Dutch specialties. Or we can stop at the famous Frederika’s, famous for its delicious pies.
Return to Curitiba with arrival scheduled between 7 and 7:30 PM.
