VILA VELHA STATE PARK
Glacial-era glaciers and wind erosion worked together for more than 300 million years to sculpt the rock formations of Vila Velha. The Vila Velha State Park is open from Wednesday to Monday and has recently been completely restructured. The main attractions are the sandstone sculptures, the furnas (collapsed caves) and theLagoa Dourada (Golden Lagoon).
The hikes in the park are conducted by bus, under the supervision of a local guide. The visit takes approximately three hours and offers the opportunity to visit the stone sculptures by walking On one side of the landscape, the tourists are astounded at a wide open lawn. On the other, the Paraná Pine, or Araucaria forest with closed and humid vegetation: an interesting contrast.
There are optional actitivies such as tree climbing and ziplining. You can add some action to your tour!
After the October Revolution in Russia, many Mennonites left Europe to settle in Brazil. As in Santa Catarina there were many of them, a group of Mennonite families bought a large farm in Palmeira, and shared it among several families, founding in 1953 the Colony of Witmarsum. Today it is a lovely village in the interior that preserves traditions such as homemade cakes, dairy farms, delicious cheeses and products like jellies, as well as many other treats. At the local school, children learn German and most locals communicate in this language to this day. You will have the chance to taste the local cuisine (lunch is not included): typical German lunch or ‘colonial coffee”, a delicious selection of salty and sweet treats served with coffee, tea and juices.
